Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तमुवाच महातेजाः पौलस्त्यमपराजितम् ।
समाह्वये त्वां समरे सम्यग्युद्धं प्रयच्छ मे ॥६-८७-९॥
tamuvāca mahātejāḥ paulastyamaparājitam |
samāhvaye tvāṃ samare samyagyuddhaṃ prayaccha me ॥6-87-9॥
Translation
The highly radiant Lakshmana said to that unconquered descendant of Pulastya (Indrajit), 'I challenge you to battle; give me a fair fight.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
महातेजस्वी (लक्ष्मण) ने उस अपराजित पुलस्त्यवंशी (इन्द्रजीत) से कहा—'मैं तुम्हें युद्ध के लिए ललकारता हूँ, मेरे साथ भली-भांति युद्ध करो।'
English Commentary
Lakshmana denied Indrajit the opportunity to perform the ritual. He challenged him to a duel. 'Samyagyuddha' implies a fair fight without illusions or deceit—a righteous face-to-face battle. Lakshmana knew that without his magic, Indrajit could be defeated. This reflects Lakshmana's confidence and valor.

लक्ष्मण ने इन्द्रजीत को यज्ञ करने का अवसर नहीं दिया। उन्होंने उसे द्वंद्व युद्ध के लिए चुनौती दी। 'सम्यग्युद्ध' का अर्थ है—बिना माया और छल के, आमने-सामने का धर्मयुद्ध। लक्ष्मण जानते थे कि माया के बिना इन्द्रजीत को हराया जा सकता है। यह लक्ष्मण के आत्मविश्वास और शौर्य का परिचायक है।
