तं ददर्श महेष्वासो रथे सुसमलङ्कृतः ।
अलङ्कृतममित्रघ्नं राघवस्यानुजं बली ॥६-८८-४॥
taṃ dadarśa maheṣvāso rathe susamalaṅkṛtaḥ |
alaṅkṛtamamitraghnaṃ rāghavasyānujaṃ balī ॥6-88-4॥
Translation
The mighty great archer, the younger brother of Raghunandana (Lakshmana), saw that decorated destroyer of enemies (Indrajit) mounted on his decorated chariot.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सजे हुए रथ पर सवार उस अलंकृत और शत्रुघाती (इन्द्रजीत) को, महाधनुर्धर और बलवान रघुनंदन के अनुज (लक्ष्मण) ने देखा।
English Commentary
Here, two great warriors lock eyes. Both are described as 'mighty' and 'archers.' Indrajit is on a chariot, giving him the advantage of height and protection, while Lakshmana is on the ground (or on Hanuman, as clarified next). The epithet 'Raghavasyanuja' points to the source of Lakshmana's strength (devotion to Shri Rama).

यहाँ दो महायोध्दाओं का आमना-सामना होता है। दोनों 'बलवान' और 'धनुर्धर' हैं। इन्द्रजीत रथ पर है, जो उसे ऊँचाई और सुरक्षा का लाभ देता है, जबकि लक्ष्मण भूमि पर हैं (या हनुमान जी पर, जैसा अगले श्लोक में स्पष्ट होगा)। 'राघवस्यानुज' विशेषण लक्ष्मण की शक्ति के स्रोत (श्री राम की भक्ति) को इंगित करता है।
