किम् च राक्षस राजस्य रामेण अपकृतम् पुरा ।
आजहार जन स्थानाद् यस्य भार्याम् यशस्विनः ॥६-९-१३॥
kiṃ ca rākṣasarājasya rāmeṇāpakṛtaṃ purā । ājahāra janasthānādyasya bhāryāṃ yaśasvinaḥ ॥6-9-13॥
Translation
'And what harm was done to the King of Rakshasas by Shri Rama previously, that the wife of the famous one was abducted from Janasthana?'

'और पहले श्री राम ने राक्षसराज (रावण) का क्या बिगाड़ा (अपकार) किया था, कि जनस्थान से उस यशस्वी (श्री राम) की पत्नी का अपहरण कर लिया गया?'
English Commentary
Moral questioning. Vibhishana challenges the casus belli. He asks, 'Who started it?' Shri Rama had not aggressed against Ravana personally before the abduction. Stealing Sita was an unprovoked act of aggression against a 'yashasvin' (illustrious) man, making Ravana the moral aggressor.

नैतिक प्रश्न। विभीषण मूल कारण पर जाते हैं। युद्ध का कारण रावण का अपराध है, न कि श्री राम का। श्री राम ने रावण का कोई व्यक्तिगत नुकसान नहीं किया था (खर-दूषण वध आत्मरक्षा थी)। सीता का अपहरण 'अकारण' और 'अन्यायपूर्ण' था।
