हन्तुकामस्य मे बाष्पं चक्षुश्चैव निरुद्ध्यति ।
तमेवैष महाबाहुर्लक्ष्मणः शमयिष्यति ॥६-९०-१८॥
hantukāmasya me bāṣpaṃ cakṣuścaiva niruddhyati |
tamevaiṣa mahābāhurlakṣmaṇaḥ śamayiṣyati ॥6-90-18॥
Translation
As I desire to kill him, tears well up and obstruct my vision. Therefore, the mighty-armed Lakshmana alone shall pacify (slay) him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसे (इन्द्रजित को) मारने की इच्छा करने पर मेरी आँखों में आँसू आ रहे हैं और मेरी दृष्टि रुक रही है। इसलिए ये महाबाहु लक्ष्मण ही उसे शांत (वध) करेंगे।
English Commentary
Shri Vibhishana admits his human vulnerability here. The welling of tears is proof of his compassionate heart. He realizes he cannot strike Indrajit himself because familial attachment acts as a barrier. Thus, he delegates this responsibility to Shri Lakshmana. The word 'Shamayiṣyati' (will pacify) is a dignified and spiritual term for slaying, suggesting the subduing of a great disturbance or evil.

विभीषण जी यहाँ अपनी मानवीय दुर्बलता को स्वीकार करते हैं। आंसुओं का आना उनके सहृदय होने का प्रमाण है। वे जानते हैं कि वे स्वयं इन्द्रजित पर प्रहार नहीं कर पाएंगे क्योंकि मोह बाधा बन रहा है। इसलिए वे यह उत्तरदायित्व श्री लक्ष्मण जी को सौंपते हैं। 'शमयिष्यति' (शांत करना) शब्द वध के लिए एक सम्मानजनक और आध्यात्मिक प्रयोग है, जैसे किसी उत्पात को शांत किया जाता है।
