Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
परिवव्रुभयं त्यक्त्वा तमनेकविधायुधाः ।
शरैः परशुभिस्तीक्ष्णैः पट्टिशैर्यष्टितोमरैः ॥६-९०-२३॥
parivavrubhayaṃ tyaktvā tamanekavidhāyudhāḥ |
śaraiḥ paraśubhistīkṣṇaiḥ paṭṭiśairyāṣṭitomaraiḥ ॥6-90-23॥
Translation
Casting away fear and armed with many kinds of weapons, they surrounded Jambavan from all sides and (attacked) with sharp arrows, axes, bludgeons, staffs, and lances.
हिंदी अनुवाद
भय त्यागकर अनेक प्रकार के शस्त्रों के साथ जाम्बवान को चारों ओर से घेर लिया और तीखे बाणों, फरसों, पट्टिशों, लाठियों और तोमरों से (प्रहार करने लगे)।
English Commentary
The Rakshasas made Shri Jambavan their primary target. The phrase 'having cast away fear' indicates that the demons had also taken a life-or-death vow. The variety of weapons (arrows, axes, lances) increases the ferocity of the combat. Jambavan was facing a large contingent of Rakshasas single-handedly, testifying to his indomitable valor.

राक्षसों ने जाम्बवान जी को अपना मुख्य लक्ष्य बनाया। 'भयं त्यक्त्वा' (डर छोड़कर) शब्द यह बताते हैं कि राक्षसों ने भी अब जीवन-मरण का संकल्प ले लिया था। शस्त्रों की यह विविधता (बाण, परशु, तोमर) युद्ध की भयंकरता को बढ़ा देती है। जाम्बवान जी यहाँ अकेले ही राक्षसों के एक बड़े दल का सामना कर रहे थे, जो उनके अदम्य शौर्य का प्रमाण है।
