अर्दयामास बाणौघैर्विचरन्तमभीतवत् ।
निहतं सारथिं दृष्ट्वा समरे रावणात्मजः ॥६-९०-४६॥
ardayāmāsa bāṇaughairvicarantamabhītavat |
nihataṃ sārathiṃ dṛṣṭvā samare rāvaṇātmajaḥ ॥6-90-46॥
Translation
Lakshmana tormented Indrajit, who was moving about fearlessly, with volleys of arrows. Seeing his charioteer slain in the battle, the son of Ravana—

निर्भय होकर विचरते हुए उस इन्द्रजित को लक्ष्मण ने बाणों के समूह से पीड़ित कर दिया। युद्ध में अपने सारथी को मरा हुआ देखकर रावण पुत्र—
English Commentary
Indrajit's fearless movement reflects his courage, but Shri Lakshmana's arrows 'tormented' him. The slaughter of the charioteer was an irreparable loss for Indrajit, as his chariot now became a stationary target. From this point, the process of Indrajit's psychological decline begins.
हिंदी टीका
इन्द्रजित का 'अभीतवत्' (निर्भय होकर) घूमना उसके साहस को दर्शाता है, किन्तु लक्ष्मण जी के बाणों ने उसे 'अर्दयन्' (पीड़ित/व्याकुल) कर दिया। सारथी का वध इन्द्रजित के लिए एक अपूरणीय क्षति थी क्योंकि अब उसका रथ केवल एक स्थिर लक्ष्य बनकर रह गया था। यहाँ से इन्द्रजित के मानसिक पतन की प्रक्रिया आरम्भ होती है।
