धर्मात्मा सत्यसन्धश्च रामो दाशरथिर्यदि ।
पौरुषे चाप्रतिद्वन्द्वः शरैनं जहि रावणिम् ॥६-९१-७३॥
dharmātmā satyasaṃdhaśca rāmō dāśarathiryadi |
pauruṣē cāpratidvandvaḥ śaraīnaṃ jahi rāvaṇim ॥6-91-73॥
Translation
If Shri Rama, the son of Dasharatha, is indeed righteous and truthful, and if there is no rival to Him in manliness, then O arrow! Slay this son of Ravana (Indrajit).
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि दशरथ नन्दन श्री राम धर्मात्मा और सत्यवादी हैं, और यदि पुरुषार्थ में उनके समान कोई दूसरा नहीं है, तो हे बाण! तुम इस रावण-पुत्र (इन्द्रजित) का वध कर दो।
English Commentary
This is one of the most powerful and celebrated verses in the Ramayana. Shri Lakshmana relies not on His own strength but on the 'Dharma' and 'Truth' of Shri Rama. It is the pinnacle of devotion. He proves that the power of the arrow lies not in the iron, but in the purity of Shri Rama. The word 'Yadi' (if) is not a doubt but a challenge to the entire cosmos, asserting that Shri Rama's character is the ultimate truth. This mantra was destined to incinerate all of Indrajit's illusions in an instant.

यह श्री रामायण के सबसे शक्तिशाली और प्रसिद्ध श्लोकों में से एक है। लक्ष्मण जी यहाँ अपनी शक्ति के बजाय श्री राम के 'धर्म' और 'सत्य' की शपथ ले रहे हैं। यह शरणागति और भक्ति का शिखर है। वे सिद्ध करते हैं कि बाण की शक्ति लोहे में नहीं, बल्कि श्री राम की पवित्रता में है। 'यदि' शब्द यहाँ संदेह नहीं, बल्कि एक चुनौती है सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्मांड को कि श्री राम का चरित्र ही अंतिम सत्य है। यह मन्त्र इन्द्रजित की समस्त माया को एक क्षण में भस्म कर देने वाला था।
