Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रुधिरक्लिन्नगात्रस्तु लक्ष्मणः शुभलक्षणः ।
बभूव हृष्टस्तं हत्वा शक्रजेतारमाहवे ॥६-९२-१॥
rudhiraklinnagātrastu lakṣmaṇaḥ śubhalakṣaṇaḥ |
babhūva hṛṣṭastaṃ hatvā śakrajetāramāhave ॥6-92-1॥
Translation
Lakshmana, endowed with auspicious marks, though his body was soaked in blood, became delighted having killed the conqueror of Indra (Indrajit) in the battle.

शुभ लक्षणों से युक्त लक्ष्मणजी का शरीर यद्यपि रक्त से भीगा हुआ था, तथापि युद्ध में इंद्र को जीतने वाले (इंद्रजीत) का वध करके वे अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए।
English Commentary
This verse presents a striking juxtaposition of physical pain and spiritual satisfaction. Lakshmana is described as 'rudhiraklinnagātra' (soaked in blood), yet he is 'hṛṣṭa' (delighted). This highlights the warrior code where physical wounds earned in the service of Dharma are treated as ornaments rather than afflictions. The epithet 'śubhalakṣaṇaḥ' (one with auspicious marks) suggests that despite the gore of battle, his divine radiance remains undiminished. The joy stems not from bloodlust, but from the relief of removing a formidable threat to Dharma—the conqueror of Indra himself.
