मातरं मां च भार्यां च क्व गतो ऽसि विहाय नः ।

English Commentary
The personal grief peaks here. Ravana asks the eternal question of the bereaved: 'Where have you gone?' He lists the dependents left behind. The second part introduces the inversion of natural order—the son going to Yama's abode before the father.
