Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दीप्ताभ्यामिव दीपाभ्यां सार्चिषः स्नेहबिन्दवः ।
दन्तान् विदशतस्तस्य श्रूयते दशनस्वनः ॥६-९३-२४॥
dīptābhyāmiva dīpābhyāṃ sārciṣaḥ snehabindavaḥ |
dantān vidaśatastasya śrūyate daśanasvanaḥ ॥6-93-24॥
Translation
...like drops of oil falling with flames from burning lamps. As he ground his teeth, the sound of his teeth (gnashing) was heard.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...जैसे जलते हुए दीपकों से तेल की बूंदें (स्नेहबिन्दवः) लपटों के साथ गिरती हैं। दातों को पीसते हुए उसके दांतों की (कटकटाने की) आवाज सुनाई दे रही थी।
English Commentary
A brilliant poetic simile: his burning eyes are lamps, and his tears are hot oil drops falling from them. This conveys that his grief is not watery and weak, but fiery and scorching. The auditory detail of teeth grinding ('daśanasvanaḥ') adds to the sensory terror of the scene.
