राक्षस होने पर भी वीर गति प्राप्त करने वाले योद्धा को 'परमान् लोकान्' (उत्तम लोकों) की प्राप्ति मानी गई है। मंत्रियों ने यह भी कहा कि उसने लक्ष्मण को 'संतप्त' (घायल) किया, ताकि रावण को लगे कि उसका पुत्र लड़ते हुए गया है। 'दारुणम्' शब्द उस वध की क्रूरता (सिर कटना) की ओर संकेत करता है, जिसने पिता के हृदय को विदीर्ण कर दिया।
