रावण जैसा महाबली, जिसे 'राक्षसपुङ्गवः' (राक्षसों में श्रेष्ठ/सांड) कहा गया है, पुत्र-शोक के आघात से मूर्छित हो गया। यह उसके पितृत्व के गहरे प्रेम और उस सदमे की तीव्रता को दर्शाता है। 'कश्मलं' (मूर्छा/मोह) यह बताता है कि अहंकार और शक्ति के शिखर पर बैठा व्यक्ति भी भावनाओं के आगे विवश हो जाता है।
