Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अद्यैनं तावुभौ दृष्ट्वा भ्रातरौ प्रव्यथिष्यतः ।
लोकपाला हि चत्वारः क्रुद्धेनानेन निर्जिताः ॥६-९३-४२॥
adyainaṃ tāvubhau dṛṣṭvā bhrātarau pravyathiṣyataḥ |
lokapālā hi catvāraḥ kruddhenānena nirjitāḥ ॥6-93-42॥
Translation
"Today, seeing him, both those brothers (Shri Rama and Lakshmana) will be terrified. For, when angry, he has conquered even the four guardians of the world."
हिंदी अनुवाद
...आज इस (रावण) को देखकर वे दोनों भाई (श्री राम-लक्ष्मण) भयभीत हो जाएंगे। क्योंकि क्रोधित होने पर इसने चारों लोकपालों को भी जीत लिया था।
English Commentary
The soldiers recall Ravana's history of defeating the Lokapalas (Guardians of directions). They project this past dominance onto the present, believing Shri Rama and Lakshmana will tremble before him. It highlights the tragedy of their loyalty to a leader who has lost his way.

राक्षस एक-दूसरे से रावण की अतीत की विजयों की चर्चा कर रहे हैं। उन्हें विश्वास है कि रावण का यह रूप श्री राम-लक्ष्मण को डरा देगा ('प्रव्यथिष्यतः')। यह जनसमूह का अंधविश्वास और अपने नेता में अटूट (भले ही गलत) आस्था को दर्शाता है।
