Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दिव्यास्त्रगुणपर्यन्तं निघ्नन्तं युधि राक्षसान् ।
ददृशू रामचक्रं तत् कालचक्रमिव प्रजाः ॥६-९४-३०॥
divyāstraguṇaparyantaṃ nighnantaṃ yudhi rākṣasān |
dadṛśū rāmacakraṃ tat kālacakramiva prajāḥ ॥6-94-30॥
Translation
The beings (Rakshasas) saw that 'Shri Rama-Wheel', which had divine weapons as its circumference and was destroying demons in battle, just as people behold the Wheel of Time (Death).
हिंदी अनुवाद
दिव्य अस्त्रों के गुण जिसके विस्तार हैं, ऐसे युद्ध में राक्षसों का संहार करते हुए उस 'श्री राम-चक्र' को प्रजा ने (राक्षसों ने) वैसे ही देखा जैसे लोग 'कालचक्र' को देखते हैं।
English Commentary
The metaphor culminates here. Shri Rama is equated to the 'Kala-chakra', the Wheel of Time or Death that inevitably consumes all life. For the Rakshasas, facing Shri Rama was not a battle against a man, but an encounter with the inevitable end. The awe and terror inspired by this sight paralyzed their resistance.
हिंदी टीका
राक्षसों ने श्री राम को एक मानवीय योद्धा के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि साक्षात मृत्यु (कालचक्र) के रूप में देखा। जैसे समय का चक्र सभी को पीस देता है, वैसे ही श्री राम का यह रौद्र रूप शत्रु सेना को पीस रहा था। 'दिव्य अस्त्र' इस चक्र की सीमा थे जिससे बाहर निकलना असंभव था।
