तानि तानि सहस्राणि सारोहाणां च वाजिनाम् ।
रथानां त्वग्निवर्णानां सध्वजानां सहस्रशः ॥६-९५-१॥
tāni tāni sahasrāṇi sārohāṇāṃ ca vājinām |
rathānāṃ tvagnivarṇānāṃ sadhvajānāṃ sahasraśaḥ ॥6-95-1॥
Translation
Those thousands of horses along with their riders, and thousands of chariots possessing the color of fire and adorned with banners—

वे हजारों की संख्या में घुड़सवारों सहित घोड़े और अग्नि के समान वर्ण वाले ध्वजाओं से युक्त हजारों रथ—
English Commentary
This sarga begins the lamentation of the Rakshasa women in Lanka who have lost their husbands and sons. They witness the total destruction of the material grandeur they once took pride in. The mention of thousands of horses and fire-colored chariots illustrates the vast military might of Lanka that proved futile against the brilliance of Shri Rama. This verse sets the stage for the realization of the transience of power and the consequences of ego.

इस प्रसंग में लंका की उन विधवा और शोकाकुल राक्षसियों का विलाप आरम्भ होता है जिनके पति और पुत्र युद्ध में मारे गए हैं। वे रावण के उस भौतिक वैभव के विनाश को देख रही हैं जिस पर उन्हें कभी गर्व था। यहाँ घोड़ों और अग्नि के समान चमकते रथों का उल्लेख लंका की उस महान सैन्य शक्ति को दर्शाता है जो श्री राम के तेज के सामने निष्फल सिद्ध हुई। यह श्लोक युद्ध के बाद की शून्यता और शक्ति के अहंकार के टूटने का संकेत देता है।
