कथं सर्वगुणैर्हीना गुणवन्तं महौजसम् ।
सुमुखं दुर्मुखी रामं कामयामास राक्षसी ॥६-९५-८॥
kathaṃ sarvaguṇairhīnā guṇavantaṃ mahaujasam |
sumukhaṃ durmukhī rāmaṃ kāmayāmāsa rākṣasī ॥6-95-8॥
Translation
How could that Rakshasi, devoid of all virtues and foul-faced, desire the handsome, highly energetic, and virtuous Shri Rama?

वह समस्त गुणों से रहित और डरावने मुख वाली राक्षसी, सुंदर मुख वाले, महान तेजस्वी और गुणवान श्री राम को पाने की कामना कैसे कर सकती थी?
English Commentary
This comparative description of virtues and vices reflects the regret of the women of Lanka. 'Sumukham' (fair-faced) and 'Durmukhi' (foul-faced) symbolize not just physical appearance but also inner character. Shri Rama's radiance ('Mahaujasam') was a source of wonder even to His enemies. The Rakshasa women now realize that the war originated from an impossible and improper craving.

गुणों और दोषों का यह तुलनात्मक वर्णन लंका की स्त्रियों के पश्चाताप को दर्शाता है। 'सुमुखम्' (सुन्दर मुख) और 'दुर्मुखी' (कुरूप मुख) केवल शारीरिक सुन्दरता के नहीं, बल्कि आंतरिक चरित्र के भी सूचक हैं। श्री राम का तेज (महौजसम्) अधर्मियों के लिए भी विस्मय का विषय था। राक्षसियाँ अब स्वीकार कर रही हैं कि यह युद्ध एक असम्भव और अनुचित लालसा के कारण शुरू हुआ था।
