आर्तानां राक्षसीनां तु लङ्कायां वै कुले कुले ।
रावणः करुणं शब्दं शुश्राव परिदेवितम् ॥६-९६-१॥
ārtānāṃ rākṣasīnāṃ tu laṅkāyāṃ vai kule kule |
rāvaṇaḥ karuṇaṃ śabdaṃ śuśrāva paridevitam ॥6-96-1॥
Translation
Ravana heard the piteous sounds of lamentation and the cries of the distressed Rakshasa women coming from every household in Lanka.
हिंदी अनुवाद
लंका के प्रत्येक परिवार में अत्यंत दुखी राक्षसियों का वह करुण विलाप और शोकभरा विलाप रावण ने सुना।
English Commentary
This verse depicts the internal state of Lanka after the fall of Indrajit. No household was spared from grief, and the piteous wailing of the women served as a direct indictment of Ravana's stubbornness. It marks the beginning of the end for Ravana, as he is forced to listen to the echoes of the very destruction he brought upon his people.

इस प्रसंग में लंका की आंतरिक स्थिति का चित्रण है। इन्द्रजित के वध के बाद लंका का कोई भी घर शोक से अछूता नहीं रहा। राक्षसियों का यह विलाप रावण के अहंकार पर सबसे बड़ी चोट थी, क्योंकि उसकी प्रजा अब उसके निर्णयों के दुष्परिणाम झेल रही थी। यहाँ रावण के पतन की भूमिका तैयार हो रही है, जहाँ वह अपने द्वारा उत्पन्न किए गए विनाश के स्वर स्वयं सुन रहा है।
