हतो भर्ता हतो भ्राता यासां च तनया हताः ।
वधेनाद्य रिपोस्तासां करोम्यस्रप्रमार्जनम् ॥६-९६-१८॥
hato bhartā hato bhrātā yāsāṃ ca tanayā hatāḥ |
vadhenādya ripostāsāṃ karomyasrapramārjanam ॥6-96-18॥
Translation
Today, by slaying the enemy (Shri Rama), I shall wipe away the tears of those women whose husbands, brothers, and sons have been killed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिन स्त्रियों के पति, भाई और पुत्र मारे गए हैं, आज शत्रु (श्री राम) का वध करके मैं उन सबके आँसू पोंछ दूँगा (शोक दूर कर दूँगा)।
English Commentary
Ravana attempts to position himself as the protector and avenging hero of Lanka. The phrase 'wiping away tears' suggests he is exploiting the collective grief of his subjects to fuel his personal vendetta. Instead of rectifying his errors, he seeks peace through further bloodshed, which is the fundamental fallacy of the unrighteous path.

रावण यहाँ स्वयं को लंका का रक्षक और बदला लेने वाला नायक सिद्ध करना चाहता है। 'अस्र-प्रमार्जनम्' (आँसू पोंछना) शब्द यह बताते हैं कि वह अपनी प्रजा के दुःख का उपयोग अपने प्रतिशोध के लिए कर रहा है। वह अपनी गलतियों को सुधारने के स्थान पर और अधिक रक्तपात करके शांति खोजना चाहता है, जो अधर्म की आधारभूत विसंगति है।
