अद्य मद्बाणनिर्भिन्नैः प्रकीर्णैर्गतचेतनैः ।
करोमि वानरैर्युद्धे यत्नावेक्ष्यतलां महीम् ॥६-९६-१९॥
adya madbāṇanirbhinnaiḥ prakīrṇairgatacetanaiḥ |
karomi vānarairyuddhe yatnāvekṣyatalāṃ mahīm ॥6-96-19॥
Translation
Today, I shall cover the surface of this earth with the bodies of Vanaras, pierced by my arrows, scattered everywhere and rendered lifeless.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आज मैं अपने बाणों से बिंधे हुए, संज्ञाहीन और चारों ओर बिखरे हुए वानरों के शरीरों से इस युद्धभूमि की मिट्टी को ढँक दूँगा।
English Commentary
Ravana's resolve is one of total annihilation. The term 'Gatacetanaih' (lifeless) reinforces his cruelty. He desires that the very soil of the battlefield be replaced by the corpses of the Vanaras. This verse elevates the 'Vibhatsa Rasa' (ghastly sentiment) to its peak, depicting a king eager to pile up bodies to secure his perceived victory.

रावण का संकल्प सम्पूर्ण संहार का है। 'गताचैतनैः' (चेतना रहित) शब्द उसकी क्रूरता को पुष्ट करते हैं। वह चाहता है कि रणभूमि में मिट्टी के स्थान पर केवल वानरों के शव ही दिखाई दें। यह श्लोक युद्ध के उस वीभत्स रस को चरम पर ले जाता है जहाँ एक राजा अपनी विजय के लिए शवों के ढेर लगाने को आतुर है।
