अश्वानां षष्टिकोट्यस्तु खरोष्ट्राणां तथैव च ।
पदातयस्त्वसंख्याता जग्मुस्ते राजशासनात् ॥६-९६-२८॥
aśvānāṃ ṣaṣṭikoṭyastu kharoṣṭrāṇāṃ tathaiva ca |
padātayastvasaṅkhyātā jagmuste rājaśāsanāt ॥6-96-28॥
Translation
Sixty crore (six hundred million) horses, and similarly donkeys and camels, and innumerable infantry marched by the king's decree.

साठ करोड़ घोड़े, और वैसे ही गधे तथा ऊँट और अनगिनत पैदल सैनिक राजा की आज्ञा से (युद्धभूमि की ओर) बढ़े।

संख्याओं का यह अतिरंजित वर्णन लंका की राक्षसी माया और उसके विस्तार को सूचित करता है। 'षष्टि-कोटि' (साठ करोड़) घोड़ों का उल्लेख युद्ध की उस विराटता को दर्शाता है जहाँ सम्पूर्ण असुर लोक श्री राम को रोकने के लिए एकत्रित हो गया था। 'राजशासनात्' (राजा की आज्ञा से) शब्द यह बताते हैं कि यह अभियान रावण की व्यक्तिगत जिद का परिणाम था।
