द्रुतं सूतसमायुक्तं युक्ताष्टतुरगं रथम् ।
आरुरोह रथं भीमो दीप्यमानं स्वतेजसा ॥६-९६-३४॥
drutaṃ sūtasamāyuktaṃ yuktāṣṭaturagaṃ ratham |
āruroha rathaṃ bhīmo dīpyamānaṃ svatejasā ॥6-96-34॥
Translation
Attended by a prompt charioteer and yoked with eight horses, the terrifying Ravana, shining with his own brilliance, mounted that chariot.

शीघ्रता करने वाले सारथी से युक्त और आठ घोड़ों द्वारा खींचे जाने वाले उस रथ पर, अपने ही तेज से चमकता हुआ वह भयंकर रावण सवार हो गया।
English Commentary
The eight horses signify the immense speed and power of the vehicle. Ravana himself was 'blazing with his own luster,' a product of his battle-frenzy. The epithet 'Bhima' (terrifying) captures the horror of his current form. He was now prepared to advance toward the battlefield like Death personified.

आठ घोड़े (अष्ट-तुरग) रथ की असीम गति और शक्ति का संकेत हैं। रावण स्वयं भी 'स्वतेजसा' (अपने तेज से) दमक रहा था, जो उसके युद्धोन्माद का परिणाम था। 'भीमः' (भयंकर) विशेषण उसके वर्तमान स्वरूप की विभीषिका को बताता है। वह अब साक्षात् काल के समान रणभूमि की ओर बढ़ने के लिए तैयार था।
