ते तु हृष्टा विनर्दन्तो भिन्दन्त इव मेदिनीम् ।
नादं घोरं विमुञ्चन्तो निर्ययुर्जयकाङ्क्षिणः ॥६-९६-३७॥
te tu hṛṣṭā vinardanto bhindanta iva medinīm |
nādaṃ ghoraṃ vimuñcanto niryayur jayakāṅkṣiṇaḥ ॥6-96-37॥
Translation
Rejoicing and as if splitting the earth, they began to roar. Emitting a terrifying sound and desiring victory, they marched out.

वे सभी हर्षित होकर और मानो पृथ्वी को विदीर्ण करते हुए गर्जना करने लगे। वे भयंकर शब्द करते हुए विजय की इच्छा से बाहर निकले।
English Commentary
The 'joy' of the Rakshasas reflects their bloodlust. The analogy 'as if splitting the earth' describes the combined force of their roars and the thud of their march. They were 'desirous of victory,' yet this longing was now a mere mirage. This verse brings to life the frantic noise of battle-frenzy and demonic resolve.

राक्षसों का 'हर्ष' यहाँ उनकी युद्ध-पिपासा को दर्शाता है। 'भिनदन्तः इव मेदिनीम्' उपमा उनके सामूहिक गर्जन और कदमों की धमक को प्रकट करती है। वे 'जयकाङ्क्षिणः' (विजय के अभिलाषी) थे, किन्तु यह इच्छा अब केवल एक मरुमरीचिका थी। यह श्लोक युद्ध के उन्माद और आसुरी संकल्प के भीषण स्वर को सजीव कर देता है।
