ततो नष्टप्रभः सूर्यो दिशश्च तिमिरावृताः ।
द्विजाश्च नेदुर्घोराश्च संचचालेव मेदिनी ॥६-९६-४०॥
tato naṣṭaprabhaḥ sūryo diśaśca timirāvṛtāḥ |
dvijāśca nedu rghorāśca sañcacāleva medinī ॥6-96-40॥
Translation
Then the sun lost its luster, the directions were enveloped in darkness, fearsome birds shrieked, and the earth appeared to tremble.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब सूर्य की कांति लुप्त हो गई, दिशाओं में अंधकार छा गया, भयंकर पक्षी शोर करने लगे और पृथ्वी कांपने लगी।
English Commentary
The description of ominous portents begins here. The fading of the sun's luster symbolizes the eclipse of righteousness and the approaching darkness of Ravana's end. The trembling of the earth ('Sancacala iva medini') indicates that nature itself was disturbed by the final march of this arch-sinner. These signs were divine proclamations of Ravana's impending doom.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ से भयंकर अपशकुनों (Portents) का वर्णन आरम्भ होता है। सूर्य का निष्प्रभ होना धर्म के प्रकाश के संकट और रावण के आसन्न अंधकार का प्रतीक है। 'संचचाल इव मेदिनी' (पृथ्वी का कांपना) यह बताता है कि सम्पूर्ण प्रकृति इस महापापी के अंतिम प्रस्थान से विचलित थी। ये संकेत रावण के सर्वनाश की दैवीय घोषणाएँ थीं।
