अन्तरिक्षात् पपातोल्का निर्घातसमनिःस्वना ।
विनेदुरशिवा गृध्रा वायसैरनुनादिताः ॥६-९६-४४॥
antarikṣāt papātolkā nirghātasamaniḥsvanā |
vineduraśivā gṛdhrā vāyasair anunāditāḥ ॥6-96-44॥
Translation
A meteor fell from the sky with a sound like a thunderclap. Inauspicious vultures, echoed by crows, shrieked dreadfully.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आकाश से भयंकर गूँज के साथ एक उल्कापिंड गिरा। अमंगलकारी गीध और कौवे मिलकर डरावना शोर करने लगे।
English Commentary
A falling meteor ('Ulka') is an ancient, universal omen of a kingdom's collapse. The thunderous sound signifies the impact of his impending fall. The collective shrieking of vultures and crows sounded like a macabre preparation for the end. The sun of Ravana's power was setting, and these celestial and terrestrial signs were witnesses to his cosmic failure.

उल्कापात (गिरता तारा) राज्य के पतन का एक प्राचीन और सार्वभौमिक संकेत है। 'निर्घात-सम' (वज्र के समान) ध्वनि प्रहार की मारक क्षमता को दर्शाती है। गीध और कौवों का सामूहिक क्रन्दन मृत्यु के उत्सव की तैयारी जैसा लग रहा था। रावण की सत्ता का सूर्य अब अस्त होने वाला था, और आकाश के ये पिंड उसी महा-पतन की गवाही दे रहे थे।
