निरुच्छ्वासा हताः केचित् केचित् पार्श्वेषु दारिताः ।
केचिद्भिन्नशिरसः केचिच्चक्षुर्विवर्जिताः ॥६-९६-५०॥
nirucchvāsā hatāḥ kecid kecid pārśveṣu dāritāḥ |
kecid bhinnaśirasaḥ keciccakṣurvivarjitāḥ ॥6-96-50॥
Translation
Some were killed and rendered breathless, some were torn at their sides, some had their heads shattered, and some were deprived of their eyes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कुछ वानर श्वासहीन (प्राणहीन) होकर गिर पड़े, कुछ की पसलियाँ फाड़ दी गई थीं, कुछ के मस्तक फूट गए थे और कुछ की आँखें निकाल ली गई थीं।
English Commentary
Sage Valmiki describes the naked and gruesome reality of the battlefield. Ravana's assault was indiscriminate and cruel. Depriving warriors of their sight ('Cakshurvivarjitah') represents the peak of carnage, intended to render the enemy completely helpless. This sight was designed to strike absolute terror and demoralize the Vanara forces.

महर्षि वाल्मीकि यहाँ युद्ध की नग्न और वीभत्स वास्तविकता का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। रावण का प्रहार 'अंधा' और 'क्रूर' था। 'चक्षु-विवर्जिताः' (आँखों से रहित) होना संहार की उस पराकाष्ठा को दर्शाता है जहाँ शत्रु को पूरी तरह असहाय बना दिया जाता था। यह दृश्य वानर सेना के मनोबल पर प्रहार करने के लिए पर्याप्त था।
