दशाननः क्रोधविवृत्तनेत्रो यतो यतोऽभ्येति रथेन संख्ये ।
ततस्ततस्तस्य शरप्रवेगं सोढुं न शेकुर्हरिपुंगवास्ते ॥६-९६-५१॥
daśānanaḥ krodhavivṛttanetro yato yato'bhyeti rathena saṅkhye |
tatastatastasya śarapravegaṃ soḍhuṃ na śekur haripuṅgavāste ॥6-96-51॥
Translation
Wherever the ten-headed Ravana, with eyes wide with rage, advanced in his chariot during the battle, those foremost of monkeys were unable to withstand the fierce momentum of his arrows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
क्रोध से फटी हुई आँखों वाला वह दशानन युद्ध में अपने रथ से जिस-जिस ओर बढ़ता था, उस-उस ओर वे वानर श्रेष्ठ उसके बाणों के प्रचंड वेग को सहने में समर्थ नहीं हो पा रहे थे।
English Commentary
The sarga concludes with Ravana's unilateral dominance on the field. His 'eyes distended with rage' signify a terrifying focus. Wherever his chariot moved, a dance of death followed. The admission that the Vanaras 'could not withstand' his arrows proves that Ravana's martial power was far beyond the capacity of ordinary troops. The battle had now become a final cry for the personal intervention of Shri Rama.

सर्ग का समापन रावण के एकतरफा वर्चस्व के साथ होता है। 'क्रोध-विवृत्त-नेत्रः' (क्रोध से फैली आँखें) उसकी भयावह एकाग्रता को दर्शाती हैं। रावण का रथ जहाँ भी जाता था, वहाँ मृत्यु का ताण्डव आरम्भ हो जाता था। 'सोढुं न शेकुः' (सहने में समर्थ न होना) यह स्वीकारोक्ति है कि रावण का अस्त्र-बल साधारण वानरों के सामर्थ्य से बहुत ऊपर था। अब यह युद्ध श्री राम के हस्तक्षेप की अंतिम पुकार बन चुका था।
