कपिराजविमुक्तैस्तैः शैलवर्षैस्तु राक्षसाः ।
विकीर्णशिरसः पेतुर्निकृत्ता इव पर्वताः ॥६-९७-१२॥
kapirājavimuktaistaiḥ śailavarṣaistu rākṣasāḥ |
vikīrṇaśirasaḥ peturnikṛttā iva parvatāḥ ॥6-97-12॥
Translation
Struck by the shower of rocks released by the King of Monkeys, the Rakshasas fell with their heads shattered, looking like mountains whose wings had been cut off.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कपिराज सुग्रीव द्वारा छोड़ी गई उन शिलाओं की वर्षा से सिर फूट जाने के कारण राक्षस, कटे हुए पर्वतों के समान गिरने लगे।
English Commentary
The Rakshasas, huge in stature, fall like 'cut mountains' ('nikṛttā iva parvatāḥ'). This alludes to the myth where mountains once had wings until Indra cut them off. The imagery conveys the massive thud of their fall and the gruesome nature of their death ('shattered heads') caused by Sugriva's lithic bombardment.

राक्षसों के विशाल शरीरों की तुलना 'पर्वतों' से की गई है। जब उनके सिर फूट गए ('विकীর্ণशिरसः'), तो वे ऐसे गिरे जैसे प्राचीन काल में इंद्र द्वारा पंख काटे जाने पर पर्वत गिरे थे। यह राक्षसों के आकार और सुग्रीव के प्रहार की भीषणता दोनों को दर्शाता है।
