ततः पादपमुद्धृत्य शूरः सम्प्रधनो हरिः ।
अभिपत्य जघानास्य प्रमुखे तु महागजम् ॥६-९७-१८॥
tataḥ pādapamuddhṛtya śūraḥ sampradhano hariḥ |
abhipatya jaghānāsya pramukhe tu mahāgajam ॥6-97-18॥
Translation
Then, uprooting a tree, the heroic monkey, eager for battle, jumped forward and struck the huge elephant in front of him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब युद्ध के लिए तत्पर उस वीर वानर (सुग्रीव) ने एक वृक्ष उखाड़कर, सामने कूदते हुए उसके (विरूपाक्ष के) विशाल हाथी पर प्रहार किया।
English Commentary
Sugriva counters the technological advantage of arrows with raw strength and nature's weapons (a tree). Tactically, he targets the mount ('mahāgajam'). By taking out the elephant, he neutralizes Virupaksha's height and stability advantage, forcing a ground fight.
हिंदी टीका
सुग्रीव ने परंपरागत वानर युद्धनीति अपनाई। बाणों का उत्तर उन्होंने 'वृक्ष' से दिया। उन्होंने सीधे सवार (विरूपाक्ष) पर नहीं, बल्कि उसके वाहन (हाथी) पर प्रहार किया। हाथी को निष्क्रिय करना रथी को भूमि पर लाने का सबसे प्रभावी तरीका है।
