Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कदनं तरसा कृत्वा राक्षसेन्द्रो वनौकसाम् ।
आससाद ततो युद्धे राघवं त्वरितस्तदा ॥६-९७-५॥
kadanaṃ tarasā kṛtvā rākṣasendro vanaukasām |
āsasāda tato yuddhe rāghavaṃ tvaritastadā ॥6-97-5॥
Translation
Having swiftly caused a slaughter of the forest-dwellers, the Lord of Rakshasas then quickly approached Raghava (Shri Rama) in the battle.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वेगपूर्वक वानरों का संहार (कदन) करके, राक्षसराज रावण तब युद्ध में शीघ्रता से श्री राघव (श्री राम) के पास पहुँचा।
English Commentary
Ravana's primary objective was not the annihilation of foot soldiers but the confrontation with Shri Rama. The slaughter ('kadanaṃ') of the Vanaras was merely to clear his path. The word 'tvaritas' (quickly) reveals his impatience and intense focus on reaching his ultimate adversary, Lord Shri Rama.

रावण का मुख्य लक्ष्य सामान्य वानर नहीं, बल्कि श्रीश्री राम थे। वानरों का संहार तो केवल मार्ग साफ़ करने के लिए था। 'त्वरितः' (शीघ्रता से) शब्द रावण की उत्सुकता और क्रोध को दर्शाता है। वह सीधे अपने मुख्य शत्रु, भगवान श्रीश्री राम से दो-दो हाथ करना चाहता था।
