ततस्ते वानराः सर्वे राक्षसैरर्दिता भृशम् ।
दिशो दश द्रुताः केचित् केचित् सुग्रीवमाश्रिताः ॥६-९८-१०॥
tataste vānarāḥ sarve rākṣasairarditā bhṛśam |
diśo daśa drutāḥ kecit kecit sugrīvamāśritāḥ ॥6-98-10॥
Translation
Then, severely tormented by the Rakshasas, some of those monkeys fled in ten directions, while others took refuge in Sugriva.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब राक्षसों (विशेषतः महोदर) द्वारा बुरी तरह पीड़ित वे सभी वानर दस दिशाओं में भाग गए, और कुछ ने सुग्रीव का आश्रय लिया।
English Commentary
As the commander (Mahodara) began to dominate, panic spread through the monkey army. In times of crisis, soldiers look to their leader, so some monkeys sought refuge with Sugriva. This was the cue for Sugriva to intervene. It is the leader's duty to provide protection to frightened followers.
हिंदी टीका
जब सेनापति (महोदर) हावी होने लगा, तो वानर सेना में भगदड़ मच गई। संकट के समय सैनिक अपने नेता की ओर देखते हैं, इसलिए कुछ वानर सुग्रीव की शरण में गए। यह सुग्रीव के लिए युद्ध में हस्तक्षेप करने का संकेत (cue) था। नेता का दायित्व है कि वह भयभीत अनुयायियों को सुरक्षा प्रदान करे।
