रक्षसा तेन बाणौघैर्निकृत्ता सा सहस्रधा ।
निपपात शिला भूमौ गृध्रचक्रमिवाकुलम् ॥६-९८-१४॥
rakṣasā tena bāṇaughairnikṛttā sā sahasradhā |
nipapāta śilā bhūmau gṛdhracakramivākulam ॥6-98-14॥
Translation
Cut into a thousand pieces by the multitude of arrows from that Rakshasa, the rock fell to the ground scattered like a flock of vultures.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस राक्षस द्वारा बाणों के समूह से हजारों टुकड़ों में काटी गई वह शिला, गिद्धों के झुंड के समान बिखर कर जमीन पर गिर पड़ी।
English Commentary
The simile of 'gridhrachakra' (a flock of vultures) is striking here. Just as vultures scatter and land, the dark pieces of the rock scattered over the battlefield. This highlights the intensity and number of Mahodara's arrows ('banaughaih'), which reduced solid stone to dust.

यहाँ 'गृध्रचक्र' (गिद्धों का झुंड) की उपमा अद्भुत है। जैसे गिद्ध बिखर कर गिरते हैं, वैसे ही काले पत्थर के टुकड़े रणभूमि में बिखर गए। यह महोदर के बाणों की तीव्रता और संख्या ('बाणौघैः') को दर्शाता है जिसने ठोस पत्थर को भी धूल में मिला दिया।
