आविध्य तु स तं दीप्तं परिघं तस्य दर्शयन् ।
परिघाग्रेण वेगेन जघानास्य हयोत्तमान् ॥६-९८-१७॥
āvidhya tu sa taṃ dīptaṃ parighaṃ tasya darśayan |
parighāgreṇa vegena jaghānāsya hayottamān ॥6-98-17॥
Translation
Whirling that shining club and displaying it to him (Mahodara), Sugriva struck down his excellent horses with speed using the tip of the club.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस चमकते हुए परिघ को घुमाकर और उसे (महोदर को) दिखाते हुए, सुग्रीव ने परिघ के अग्रभाग से वेगपूर्वक उसके उत्तम घोड़ों को मार डाला।
English Commentary
Sugriva whirled the club ('avidhya') first to create psychological pressure. A charioteer's greatest weakness is his horses. Sugriva shrewdly destroyed Mahodara's mobility first. Killing the horses to force a charioteer to fight on foot is a classic strategy.
हिंदी टीका
सुग्रीव ने मनोवैज्ञानिक दबाव बनाने के लिए पहले परिघ को घुमाया ('आविध्य')। रथी (रथ वाले योद्धा) की सबसे बड़ी कमजोरी उसके घोड़े होते हैं। सुग्रीव ने चतुराई से पहले महोदर की गतिशीलता (mobility) को नष्ट किया। घोड़ों को मारना रथी को पैदल लड़ने पर विवश करने की पुरानी रणनीति है।
