गदां तां सुमहाघोरामापतन्तीं महाबलः ।
सुग्रीवो रोषताम्राक्षः समुद्यम्य महाहवे ॥६-९८-२१॥
gadāṃ tāṃ sumahāghorāmāpatantīṃ mahābalaḥ |
sugrīvo roṣatāmrākṣaḥ samudyamya mahāhave ॥6-98-21॥
Translation
Seeing that exceedingly terrible mace approaching, the mighty Sugriva, with eyes red with anger, raised (his club) in that great battle...

English Commentary
Sugriva's reaction was not of fear but of rage ('roshatamrakshah' - red-eyed with anger). To counter the incoming threat, he decided to use his weapon in a manner that was both defensive and offensive.

सुग्रीव की प्रतिक्रिया भय की नहीं, बल्कि क्रोध की थी ('रोषताम्राक्षः' - क्रोध से लाल आँखों वाले)। आने वाले खतरे को रोकने के लिए उन्होंने अपने हथियार का प्रयोग रक्षात्मक और आक्रामक दोनों तरीकों से करने का निर्णय लिया।
