Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तद्बलं राक्षसेन्द्रस्य दृष्ट्वा तत्र न तिष्ठते ।
हत्वा तं वानरैः सार्धं ननाद मुदितो हरिः ॥६-९८-३५॥
tadbalaṃ rākṣasendrasya dṛṣṭvā tatra na tiṣṭhate |
hatvā taṃ vānaraiḥ sārdhaṃ nanāda mudito hariḥ ॥6-98-35॥
Translation
Seeing that sight, the army of the Rakshasa King could not stay there. Having killed him, the delighted monkey (Sugriva) roared along with the other monkeys.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राक्षसराज की वह सेना उस दृश्य को देखकर वहां ठहर न सकी। उसे (महोदर को) मारकर प्रसन्न हुए वानर (सुग्रीव) ने वानरों के साथ मिलकर गर्जना की।
English Commentary
The death of a commander breaks the army's morale. As Mahodara fell, the Rakshasas fled. Sugriva's 'naada' (roar) was a proclamation of victory. This roar served to extinguish the enemy's remaining courage and infuse enthusiasm into his own troops.
हिंदी टीका
सेनापति की मृत्यु सेना का मनोबल तोड़ देती है। महोदर के गिरते ही राक्षस भाग खड़े हुए। सुग्रीव का 'नाद' (गर्जना) विजय की घोषणा थी। यह गर्जना शत्रु के बचे-खुचे साहस को समाप्त करने और अपनी सेना में उत्साह भरने के लिए थी।
