Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पातयामास कायेभ्यः फलं वृन्तादिवानिलः ।
केषाञ्चिदिषुभिर्बाहून् स्कन्धांश्चिच्छेद राक्षसः ॥६-९९-३॥
pātayāmāsa kāyebhyaḥ phalaṃ vṛntādivānilaḥ |
keṣāñcidiṣubhirbāhūn skandhāṃściccheda rākṣasaḥ ॥6-99-3॥
Translation
...caused them to fall from their bodies just as the wind causes fruit to fall from stalks. The Rakshasa severed the arms and shoulders of some with his arrows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...शरीरों से वैसे ही गिरा दिया जैसे वायु फलों को डंठलों से गिरा देती है। उस राक्षस ने बाणों से कुछ (वानरों) की भुजाएं और कंधे काट दिए।
English Commentary
A very visual simile is used here. Just as a strong wind knocks ripe fruits off a tree, Mahaparshva was severing heads from torsos. This simile highlights the fragility of life and the ruthlessness of war. Severing arms and shoulders was an attempt to neutralize the monkeys' fighting capability.

यहाँ एक बहुत ही दृश्यमान उपमा दी गई है। जैसे तेज हवा पके हुए फलों को पेड़ से गिरा देती है, वैसे ही महापार्श्व वानरों के सिर धड़ से अलग कर रहा था। यह उपमा जीवन की क्षणभंगुरता और युद्ध की निष्ठुरता को दर्शाती है। भुजाओं और कंधों का कटना वानरों की लड़ने की क्षमता को समाप्त करने का प्रयास था।
